Ratner On X-Men: The Last Stand DVDs

Brett Ratner, director of X-Men: The Last Stand, told IGN that he is working on a Special Edition DVD to follow the initial release of the film on October 3. “Well, there’s almost an hour-long making-of, my personal making of the movie, my experiences making the movie,” Ratner said during a phone interview. “There’s special features which include, you know, just basically the creation of the movie - I mean, how we did it in the storyboards and original animatics.”

What’s also interesting is that XMenFilms is reporting that Wal-Mart stores will include a bonus disc when you buy X-Men: The Last Stand there which features 50 minutes of additional behind-the-scenes footage.


Clerks 2 DVD Hits In December

The Weinstein Company has revealed the official artwork for Clerks II which stars Rosario Dawson, Kevin Smith, and Jason Mewes. The disc will be available on December 5, 2006, and should retail at around $29.95. The film itself will be presented in anamorphic widescreen, along with an English Dolby Digital 5.1 track. Extras will include an audio commentary with Kevin Smith and co, deleted scenes, a ninety-minute behind the scenes documentary, the complete MySpace credits list, trailers, and more. A HD DVD release will be available from the same day, priced at $35.99. Extras are believed to be identical.




Cars Racing To DVD On November 7

USA Today reports that Disney/Pixar’s summer blockbuster Cars will hit DVD on November 7. The second-biggest film of the year, behind Disney’s own Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest ($366.4 million), the animated film has pulled in $236 million at the domestic box office and $347.8 million worldwide.

The newspaper says the DVD will include an all-new short film “Mater and the Ghostlight.” A behind-the-scenes feature, “Inspiration for Cars,” tells how writer-director John Lasseter made the film.

Also on the $30 DVD is “One Man Band,” the Academy Award-nominated short that played in theaters before Cars, four deleted scenes and a sneak peek at next summer’s Disney/Pixar animated feature Ratatouille.


X-Men The Last Stand Coming To DVD October 3

20th Century Fox Home Entertainment is expected to announce Friday that “X-Men: The Last Stand,” which since its May 26 theatrical opening has grossed $233 million at the boxoffice, will arrive on DVD on Oct. 3 in two extras-laden special editions.

The highlight of the third “X-Men” movie’s DVD debut: three alternative endings, each with optional commentary by director Brett Ratner. The single-disc DVD release also includes 10 deleted scenes; audio commentaries from Ratner, the writers and the producers; a preview of the upcoming Ben Stiller movie “A Night at the Museum;” and two hidden “Easter eggs,” one of the Beast reciting Shakespeare and the other of the X-Jet landing in Washington.

Fox also is preparing a collector’s edition that includes an exclusive 100-page commemorative book with an all-new story penned by Marvel Comics master Stan Lee. It is his first original Marvel Comics book in five years.


ABC Announces DVD Releases

According to USA Today, Teri Hatcher gets more family time in the upcoming “Desperate Housewives: The Complete Second Season - Extra Juicy Edition” DVD. The six-disc set (in stores July 29, $60) includes an unaired story line starring Hatcher’s character Susan Mayer, her mom (Lesley Ann Warren) and stepdad (Bob Newhart), as well as other deleted scenes and extras.

Also, “Grey’s Anatomy: The Complete Second Season - Uncut” (Sept. 12, $60) has three extended episodes with footage deemed too steamy for TV.

In addition to “lost,” unaired flashbacks, the seven-disc “Lost: The Complete Second Season - The Extended Edition” (Oct. 3, $60) promises an interactive matrix for exploring the connections between various characters and numbers.
